Swipe Again

Failed-payment recovery for subscription businesses, charged as a flat $179 a month rather than a cut of what it recovers. Decline-code-aware retries, branded dunning over email, SMS and voice, hosted card-update pages, a 90-day backfill when you connect, and cancel deflection. Nine billing platforms.

TLDR My quick take on Swipe Again
Everyone in dunning charges a percentage of what they recover, which means your bill grows with your failure rate. Swipe Again charges $179 a month and stops there. The retry logic is decline-code aware and it chases over SMS and voice as well as email. Pre-revenue and honest about it, which is worth knowing before you build a quarter on it.

How does Swipe Again actually reduce churn?

Resurrection Setup Moment

Swipe Again works on customers who never chose to leave, which is the cheapest churn to fix and the first place to look. The decline code tells you what to say, so there is no strategy to invent. What makes this one worth a second look is the pricing shape rather than the mechanics: a flat fee means the tool stops taking a bigger share exactly as the problem gets worse, which is the moment most percentage vendors start earning most.

What is Swipe Again?

Swipe Again is failed-payment recovery with an argument attached. Almost everything in this category takes a cut of what it recovers, so the vendor earns more the worse your involuntary churn gets. Swipe Again charges a flat $179 a month regardless, which they pitch as a utility bill rather than a revenue share. If you recover a lot, the flat fee is the cheapest thing on your invoice. If you recover nothing, you paid $179 to find that out.

The mechanics are the strongest part. Failed charges are sorted by decline code, and soft declines get a retry schedule matched to the reason, up to six attempts over about sixteen days. Hard declines are never retried, which sounds obvious and is not: retrying a stolen-card response just burns your processor reputation for nothing. Follow-up runs on email at days 1, 3 and 7, SMS at days 1 and 7, and a voice call on day 5 for high-value accounts, each carrying a one-click link to a hosted card-update page. Expired cards get their own dedicated sequence. Cancel deflection sits on top, applying reason-matched discounts and pauses on your platform automatically.

Connecting runs a 90-day backfill, so the first thing you see is the failed payments already sitting in your account rather than an empty dashboard waiting for the next decline. Charges run through your own processor and settle to your account exactly as before. Swipe Again never holds funds and full card numbers never enter their systems, which is the right answer and worth confirming for anything that touches billing.

Platform coverage is the other reason to look: Stripe, Recharge, Seal Subscriptions, Skio, Loop Subscriptions, Chargebee, Recurly, Braintree and Paddle. Most tools in this category are locked to one processor, so a subscription box on Recharge or a merchant on Skio usually has nothing to choose from.

Be clear-eyed about stage. They told us directly that they are bootstrapped and pre-revenue, live in the Stripe App Marketplace with the Shopify app still in review, and that they have no first-party customer data yet. Their published benchmarks are other people's figures with the sources named, which is more honest than most vendor stats and still not proof their engine performs. There is a 14-day trial and a guarantee that recovers $179 in the first 30 days or the next 30 are free.

What can Swipe Again actually do?

  • Decline-code-aware retries, up to six attempts over about sixteen days, with hard declines never retried
  • Flat $179 a month, with no percentage of recovered revenue and no MRR tiers
  • Dunning on three channels: email days 1, 3 and 7, SMS days 1 and 7, voice call day 5 for high-value accounts
  • Hosted card-update pages reached by one click from any follow-up
  • Dedicated expired-card sequence, separate from the general soft-decline flow
  • 90-day backfill on connect, so the failed payments already in your account are the first thing you see
  • Cancel deflection with reason-matched discounts and pauses applied on your platform automatically
  • Recovery dashboard attributing every recovered dollar to the retry or message that earned it
  • Nine billing platforms, including the Shopify subscription apps most dunning tools ignore
  • Never holds funds and never stores full card numbers

Who should use Swipe Again?

Recover failed subscription renewals without paying a percentage of what comes back
Run dunning on a Shopify subscription stack, where Stripe-only tools do not reach
Chase expired cards over SMS and voice for customers who stopped opening email
See what involuntary churn has already cost you, through the 90-day backfill
Add cancel deflection without buying a second product for it

What are the pros and cons of Swipe Again?

Pros

  • Flat pricing removes the thing that makes percentage dunning uncomfortable, which is a vendor whose revenue grows with your failure rate
  • Nine platforms including Recharge, Skio, Seal and Loop, so subscription boxes and Shopify merchants are actually served rather than told to use Stripe
  • Never retrying hard declines is the correct behaviour and plenty of home-grown retry loops get it wrong
  • SMS and a voice call for high-value accounts reach the customers who have stopped reading email, which is most of them by day seven
  • The 90-day backfill quantifies the problem on day one instead of making you wait a month for data

Cons

  • Bootstrapped and pre-revenue by their own account, with no first-party recovery data yet. You would be an early customer and should price that in.
  • The Shopify app was still in review at the time of writing, so check it has shipped before planning around it
  • $179 a month is a floor, not a cut. Below roughly $20k a month in subscription revenue the flat fee is the expensive option and a percentage tool will cost you less.
  • The published benchmarks are other publishers' figures rather than their own results, which they say plainly and which still means the performance claim is unproven
  • It handles involuntary churn and the cancel moment. Nothing here tells you an account went quiet two months ago.

Frequently asked questions about Swipe Again

The questions buyers ask me most often about this tool.

How does flat pricing compare to paying a percentage of recovered revenue?

Work out your monthly failed-payment volume and assume a recovery rate somewhere around a third. If that recovered figure times the competitor percentage comes to more than $179, flat wins. Roughly, flat starts paying off above about $20k a month in subscription revenue. Below that a percentage tool with no floor is cheaper, and the flat fee is you paying for certainty you do not need yet.

Which billing platforms does Swipe Again support?

Nine: Stripe, Recharge, Seal Subscriptions, Skio, Loop Subscriptions, Chargebee, Recurly, Braintree and Paddle. That coverage of the Shopify subscription apps is unusual, and it is the main reason an ecommerce subscription business would pick this over a Stripe-only dunning tool.

What is the 90-day backfill?

When you connect, it pulls the last 90 days of failed payments rather than starting from zero. You see what involuntary churn has already cost you immediately, and recovery can start on failures that happened before you signed up.

Does Swipe Again touch my money or my customers' card details?

No to both. Charges run through your own processor and settle to your account as before, and they are not a payment processor and never hold funds. Full card numbers never enter their systems; the engine works from decline codes, amounts and customer records. Card updates happen on processor-hosted pages.

Is there a trial or a guarantee?

A 14-day free trial, with a card required up front and the first charge on day 15. There is also a first-30-days guarantee: recover $179 in the first 30 days or the next 30 are free, measured on total recovered revenue as defined in their terms.

How does it compare to RetryFix or Churn Buster?

Same job, different billing model and different reach. RetryFix is Stripe-only and charges 10% of what it recovers, or £49 flat, which suits a smaller book. Churn Buster is the established name and prices on volume. Swipe Again is the flat-fee option with the broadest platform list, and the youngest company of the three.

A tool will not fix churn you have not diagnosed

Buying software is a reasonable second step. The first one is knowing which part of your churn is voluntary, which part is failed payments, and what the people who left did differently in their first month. I work that out and send you three fixes ranked by what they are worth, in writing, within 10 working days.

  • ✓ Your churn split by cause, with dollars on each
  • ✓ Three fixes, ranked, with expected recovery
  • ✓ The advice that does not apply to you
  • ✓ Fixed price, no call required
